The Covid-19 pandemic did not only create completely new challenges for South Africa, but also exacerbated existing ones. These challenges range from the country’s deteriorating fiscal position, a stagnant economy and glaring social challenges. While South Africa grapples with placing the economy in a sustainable recovery trajectory post the Covid-19 pandemic, DFIs and SOEs are hamstrung – due to the multiplicity of challenges that exist within them – and have inadvertently become a binding constraint in achieving government’s development goals.

Based on recommendations emerging from the SA Future Economy project, this webinar will reflect on how South African DFIs and SOEs can be repurposed and be better positioned to become strategic drivers of South Africa’s developmental agenda as envisaged.
