Anyone in South Africa who is 21 years of age and older can obtain a South African adult matric completely free of charge through the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

They can study on their own, or enroll in an Adult Matric course at an adult learning center (ABET).

How many subjects do you need to pass matric in South Africa?

When you are in Matric, you must study seven (7) subjects. To pass your Matric, you must do well in six (6) subjects.

You are allowed to fail one subject and still pass Matric. It is however best to do well in all seven subjects.
