Is apretude available in South Africa?
Cabotegravir long-acting for PrEP is currently approved in the US, Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa as Apretude.
Is PrEP available in pharmacies in South Africa?
PrEP is available at any retail pharmacy in the country. It requires a script from a GP and you will need an HIV test and kidney function test first.
HIV negative people who believe they are at res for acquiring HIV and access healthcare in the private sector can access PrEP from an educated GP.
Can I get PEP at the clinic in South Africa?
PEP is available from Emergency Departments of most public hospitals, sexual health clinics, and some other clinics and doctors that specialize in sexual health and HIV.
For clinics and doctors, it’s a good idea to call first to make sure they are open, and to let them know in advance that you are coming to get PEP.
