What is a Hoodia?
Hoodia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Apocynaceae, under the subfamily Asclepiadoideae, native to Southern Africa.
Where Can I Find Hoodia In South Africa?
Hoodia gordonii has a very wide distribution. It occurs in the north-eastern part of the Western Cape, the north and north-western regions of the Northern Cape and southern Namibia.
It is used to extreme heat (above 40°C), but it can survive in relatively low temperatures (-3°C).
Is Hoodia difficult to plant?
Hoodia is devilishly difficult to cultivate because it prefers very high temperatures, sandy soil, and almost no water.
This makes it rare even among succulent plant aficionados.
