What is the real name for perler beads?
Perler beads, also called Hama beads (in Japan) or melty beads, are small, plastic beads. You arrange them on a special pegboard to form a design. Then, using an iron and wax paper, you melt the beads together.
Are fuse beads the same as perler beads?
Fuse beads are smaller and have a smooth, shiny surface. Perler beads are larger and have a matte finish. Fuse beads are melted together using an iron, while perler beads can be fused with an iron or by threading them through a piece of string. Both of them are excellent craft toy choices for kids.
Why do people put tape on Perler beads?
Some Perler artists prefer the Tape Method to avoid seams that can sometimes appear between connected pegboards or the chance of beads springing off the pegboards during the fusing of a large project. It may take a bit more time and effort, but you may find that the results are more pleasing.
How much does it cost to melt Perler beads?
NOTE: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly, and some colors may fuse more quickly than others.
Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Depending on the size of the project, additional heating time may be required.
