What is the best way to eat Oyster Sauce?
I call oyster sauce “the queen of stir-fry sauces”.
You can add it to soups and stews, but because of its richness, we usually use it in something a little richer such as the Thai beef stew, five spice eggs and pork belly soup, or the famous boat noodles.
It’s perfect in meat marinades.
How is oyster sauce made?
Traditionally, oysters are slowly simmered in water until the liquid caramelizes into a viscous, dark black-brown sauce.
But to speed up the process, some commercialized versions are instead made with oyster extracts, plus salt, sugar, corn starch, and caramel coloring.
What does oyster sauce taste like?
Umami-rich oyster sauce tastes salty (thanks to the brininess of the oysters) with a hint of sweetness. It doesn’t taste fishy.
