Does fluconazole need a prescription?
This medicine works by killing the fungus or yeast or preventing its growth. Fluconazole is also used to prevent candidiasis in patients having bone marrow transplants who receive cancer or radiation treatment. This medicine is available only with your doctor’s prescription.
How quickly does fluconazole work?
It may be 1 to 2 weeks before it reaches its full effect. What if it does not work? Talk to your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of taking fluconazole for vaginal thrush, balanitis or oral thrush. Your doctor may ask you to take it for longer, or they may prescribe a different antifungal treatment.
Is 3 days of fluconazole enough?
How long you take fluconazole for depends on why you’re taking it and whether your infection is getting better.
It could be a single dose for vaginal thrush or balanitis. Treatment may continue for several weeks, months or even years if you have another type of infection, or you’re taking it to prevent infections.
