How long do truck tires last?
Even if the tread is not worn down yet, tyres should be replaced if they are too old, at least every six years. In old tires, the rubber will eventually dry and crack, which can lead to a blowout or flat tyre. Truck tires should be changed every 6-10 years.
Can you buy second-hand tires?
If you buy a second-hand vehicle and do not replace the tires with a new set immediately you are, in effect, buying part-worn tires. But some tires are sold as part-worn without the second-hand vehicle! It is not illegal to sell and fit these part-worn tires.
Are 5-year-old tyres OK?
Rubber is a natural product and its contact with the oxygen in both the air we breathe and the air which inflates the tyre reacts with the rubber, causing it to break down. This perishing happens over time, and it is estimated that the maximum safe lifespan of a tire is around five years.
