What is Tile Installation
Tile setting remains the same hand-operated, labor intensive process that it has always been since ancient times. The process begins with the preparation of the tile foundation, or the substrate. Common materials used as tile substrates in home installations include concrete, plywood, and drywall.

Floor tile installation costs in South Africa are typically around: R400-R1000 per square metre for vinyl flooring tiles. R500-R1500 per square metre for ceramic or porcelain flooring tiles. R900-R1250 per square metre for natural stone flooring tiles.
How Much Does It Cost To Tile A Floor In South Africa?
The average tile installation cost is between R70. 00 – R90. 00 per square meter.
This is for the labor alone and excludes materials and prep work.
How do you estimate a tile job?
To price the tile, calculate the area of the job by multiplying the length of the room by the width for the total square feet.
Multiple the total square feet by the tile price per square foot, and then add 20 percent for cuts and breakage.
How many square meters can a tiler do in a day?
The least I’ve done is 0.5 sq/m per day when replicating a Roman mosaic, up to 40sq/m of flat flooring with 300 x 300 porcelain on a wide-open conservatory with a good screed and a laborer.
An average bathroom (20sq/m) takes three to 4 days to a high standard and depends on how many windows or how much boxing.
How long does it take for tiles to set?
Once all tiles are down, you’ll need to wait until the adhesive has set before you walk on them – this can take up to 48 hours.
If you’re tiling a room which you’ll need access to, like a kitchen, bathroom, or hallway, tile half the room one day, and the other half the next.
Should you wet tiles before laying?
Soaking is not necessary.
A simple splash, brush, or sponge will do the trick.
Any thicker, you will need to not only soak the tile but also let it dry a bit.
If your tile is dripping and you place it on top of the adhesive or cement directly, the tile will start slipping.
How do you seal tile before grouting?
Seal Before Grouting
Clean any mortar or debris off the tile surface.
Spread the stone sealer evenly across the entire surface of the stone tile with a clean, soft rag or sponge roller.
Apply only as much sealer as the stone can absorb.
Allow the sealer to dry, which normally takes about an hour.
