The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a public university located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was established in 2005 when the Rand Afrikaans University, Technikon Witwatersrand, and parts of Vista University were merged.
UJ offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields, including arts, humanities, science, engineering, and business.

The University of Johannesburg UJ Online Application 2024-2025
To apply to the University of Johannesburg online, follow these steps:
- Go to the University of Johannesburg website at www.uj.ac.za.
- Click on the “Study@UJ” link in the top menu bar.
- Click on “Undergraduate” or “Postgraduate” depending on the level of study you are interested in.
- Browse the available programs and click on the program you are interested in.
- Click on the “Apply Now” button to start your application.
- Create an account on the UJ online application portal by providing your email address and choosing a password.
- Log in to your account and complete the application form by providing your personal information, academic qualifications, and other relevant information.
- Upload the required documents, such as certified copies of your ID, academic transcripts, and proof of payment for the application fee.
- Submit your application and wait for feedback from the university.

- Final School leaving results when applying with international credentials or currently in Grade 12 (Final Grade 11 results)
- Valid Passport Identity Document or Birth Certificate
- Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any language other than English)
- Provide proof of English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programs) alternatively, you may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). Should you choose to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), Mr. Malibongwe Masango will be the contact person for UJELP. - In the case where both first and second choices were unsuccessful, the International Admissions Office will offer an international applicant an alternative choice option when meeting the requirements
- Should you require on-campus accommodation, please submit a completed residence application form at the same time you apply to study at UJ
The University of Johannesburg Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the University of Johannesburg vary depending on the program of study. However, some general admission requirements include:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification with admission to a bachelor’s degree program.
- NSC achievement rating of at least 4 (50-59%) in four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.
- Minimum NSC achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) for Mathematics or 5 (60-69%) for Mathematical Literacy.
- Minimum NSC achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) for English as a Home Language or 5 (60-69%) for English as an Additional Language.
- For some programs, a portfolio of work or an audition may be required.
