Is Risograph printing cheap?

Risograph is our most affordable style of printing, allowing for a balance between budget and quality that other modes of printmaking simply cannot provide.

Are RISO printers any good?

They are ink jet tech and they get hammered, but generally very robust, and they are fast. Some engineer call-outs but no more than any other type and they are usually here same day or first thing the next morning.

Can you Riso print a photo?

The risograph can print full-color images and photographs using the colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.

What kind of paper is used for Riso?

Due to the nature of Riso ink, we can only work with absorbent, non-coated paper. Using absorbent paper will minimize potential smudging. We have found that vellum and smooth papers work the best.

Can a Riso print double sided?

Double-sided printing on the risograph is achieved in the same way as adding a new colour – one side is printed, then your page is turned over and put back through the machine.

How many colors can you print with RISO?

Multiple colours are achieved by changing the drums in the machine. Every time a new colour is needed, the riso creates a new stencil.

What is the cheapest way of printing?

Print in draft mode

Draft mode uses the least amount of ink and will save you money, but it may not be suitable for printing out coursework or your CV. Just check that it’s still readable. Only print the pages you need.

Can you Riso print on fabric?

“Riso has its limitations – size restriction being one of them. The maximum paper size to go through the machines is A3, and you are limited to printing on uncoated paper stocks (up to roughly 300gsm). Plus, you can’t print on wood or steel or fabric.”

The drying time will depend on the amount of ink applied to the paper and the absorbtion quality of your paper stock. We recommend 60 – 180 minutes.

Riso ink dries through absorption. Similar to a newspaper, Riso prints never fully cure. Rubbing the ink with your finger, even once” dry”, can result in smudging. Ink can also transfer from one sheet to the next during the printing process.

How do I prepare art for Riso?

Your files should be separated into individual black & white images for each color that is to be printed. This is similar to preparing files for screen printing. 100% black in each color layer, will print out as 100% of whichever color you are printing.

Does RISO Ink fade?

risograph inks are oil based and not classed as archival or lightfast. prints will fade over time if left in direct sunlight, but will last much longer if kept out of light.

Is RISO Ink water based?

RISO’s proprietary oil-based pigment ink does away with bleeding when writing on printed documents with water-based pens. The ink also displays excellent light-resistance to prevent fading. Therefore, this ink is suitable for documents stored for a long time.
