What is PUBLIC MANAGEMENT?

The aim of the National Diploma in Public Management is to prepare students for a career in the public sector. The object is to prepare students for entry into commerce and industry and to offer invaluable guidance on managerial competencies for those preparing to enter higher levels of the public sector.

The course is designed to offer both practical and theoretical knowledge on a variety of issues ranging from public finance, personnel management, sustainable development, legislative procedures, information technology, and knowledge – skills – applications necessary for public managers to models of governance.

Duration

Each level takes 6 Months full-time to complete (a total of 18 months to complete the theory) and then 18 months practical in industry. Generally, it takes 3 years to qualify for a National Diploma.

Description

Students complete three certificates (N4-N6) and 18 months of in-service training, at the end of which a National N Diploma in Business Management is awarded if the student meets all the relevant criteria.

Admission Requirements

A National Senior Certificate with Diploma admission – A minimum of 30% for English coupled with a minimum of 40% for four (4) x 20 credit subjects; OR

An NC(V) with Diploma admission – A minimum of 50% in English on either First Additional Language or Home Language level AND Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy AND Life Orientation – a minimum of 60% in the three (3) compulsory vocational subjects is required; OR

An SC (without endorsement) or equivalent – A minimum of five (5) subjects must be passed; OR

A Higher Certificate, an Advanced Certificate in a cognate field; OR

Mature Age Exemption:
• Candidates must have attempted Matric/Grade 12, reached the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years’ work experience and a proven ability relating to the proposed program as well as adequate communicative skills; OR

• Candidates must have reached the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.
