Paramedic Bursaries In South Africa

An Emergency Medical Technician (also known as an “EMT”) responds to emergency calls to provide immediate care to critically injured or ill patients, and thereafter to transport them to a medical facility. During transportation, EMT’s are responsible for monitoring the patients vital signs, while the other EMT drives the emergency vehicle.
Emergency Medical Technicians/ Paramedics earn an average annual salary of R160 000.

City of Johannesburg Bursary

The bursary will cover the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed textbooks and study material – the cover will be limited to R25 000 per year. Bursaries are renewed each year, depending on academic performance.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Permanently reside within Johannesburg
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • Strong academic record
  • Studying or plan to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Studying or plan to study at a recognised South African tertiary institution

Gauteng Department of Health Bursary

The bursary scheme was initiated by the Department of Health as a way to increase the skill set within the medical field in South Africa, which is currently a scarce skills in the country.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • Those residing in Gauteng Province permanently,
  • From a disadvantaged background,
  • Studying or intend on studying in one of the aforementioned fields of study,
  • Minimum “C” symbol average in Matric.

SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-cdt) Bursary

The SIOC Community Development Trust bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed study material, accommodation and a monthly stipend.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted and required to attend interviews, to ensure they satisfy the financial and other requirements. If you have not received any feedback by 31 January 2021, please regard your application as unsuccessful.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Reside in beneficiary communities (Ga-Segonyana/ Gamagara/ Joe Morolong/ Thabazimbi/ Tsantsabane)
  • Under the age of 35 years
  • Currently in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 65% on latest academic results
  • Intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Accepted to study at a recognised public University/ University of Technology/ College within South Africa
  • Proven financial need (based on household income)
  • *Preference will be given to students with disabilities

Western Cape Department of Health Bursary

The bursary will provide financial assistance towards tuition fees.

Students will be required to “work back” the bursary – one year of work for each year of funding received. The Community Service Year will cover the first year of the service contract.

  • Accepted to study at one of the following tertiary institutions: University of Cape Town (Medicine), University of the Western Cape (B Cur Nursing), Stellenbosch University (Medicine), Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Radiography / Emergency Medical Care)
