Oil Cooler Repairs in South Africa

What is an Oil Cooler?

Oil cooling is the use of engine oil as a coolant, typically to remove surplus heat from an internal combustion engine.

The hot engine transfers heat to the oil which then usually passes through a heat exchanger, typically a type of radiator known as an oil cooler.

Can you repair an oil cooler?

The Industry Standard for repairing old, leaking oil coolers used to be epoxy applied directly to the area of the leak (although at Pacific Oil Cooler Service, Inc., we have never used epoxy to repair a leaking oil cooler – we perform all repairs using only an appropriate Inert-Gas type weld).

What happens if the oil cooler is damaged?

When an oil cooler fails, it can force all the coolant out of the engine and raise the risk of an overheated engine, which may lead to possible engine damage.

If the leak is significant, you’ll notice coolant on the ground or see steam gushing out from underneath the hood.

Does an oil cooler reduce engine temperature?

Please note that engine oil coolers do not lower the engine’s temperature; they only lower the engine oil’s temperature. The engine is only cooled off by the car’s cooling systems.

Does the oil cooler affect transmission?

Extensive transmission damage can occur in some of the automatic transmission models when the transmission oil cooler fails and allows coolant to mix with the automatic transmission fluid.

Does an oil cooler help the engine?

It is responsible for regulating the temperature of your car and helps to maintain the peak performance of your car.

The car engine oil cooler is very important for the engine system and can sometimes be overlooked, especially for those who are not as mechanically minded.
