List Of Petroleum Companies In South Africa

The petroleum industry, also known as the oil industry or the oil patch, includes the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often by oil tankers and pipelines), and marketing of petroleum products. The largest volume products of the industry are fuel oil and gasoline (petrol). Petroleum companies are divided into upstream, midstream and downstream. Upstream deals with crude oil. Midstream refers to the storage and transport of crude oil and other more refined products. Downstream refers to products for consumers such as gasoline.

Petroleum is a naturally occurring, yellowish-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth’s surface. It is commonly refined into various types of fuels. Components of petroleum are separated using a technique called fractional distillation, i.e. separation of a liquid mixture into fractions differing in boiling point by means of distillation, typically using a fractionating column.

Is petrol made in South Africa?

Upstream refers to the exploration and production of crude oil. The major petroleum products that are sold in South Africa are petrol, diesel, jet fuel, illuminating paraffin, fuel oil, bitumen and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Petrol and diesel are the major liquid fuels that are used in South Africa.

How much petrol does South Africa consume?

South Africa’s retail fuel industry, which is made up of 4 600 retailers countrywide (SAPIA, 2016), accounted for most of the petrol used. However, petrol consumption declined at an annual rate of 3% from 11 billion litres in 2007 to 7.5 billion litres in 2016.

How do you calculate petrol cost per km in South Africa?

To estimate the fuel cost for a trip you need the trip distance, cost of fuel per litre, and the vehicle’s average fuel consumption. In other words: Divide the total distance (km) by 100. Now multiply the answer by the average fuel consumption, and then multiply this number by the price of fuel (per litre)
