Where is limestone found in South Africa?
The Marble Delta is the major source of limestone mined in KwaZulu-Natal and the limestone mined here is considered to be of the highest quality in South Africa. Reserves of this rich deposit are estimated to be 300 million tonnes.
What is the best quality of lime?
Good quality calcitic (agricultural) lime should have a calcium (Ca) content of > 35% and a calcium carbonate equivalent (CCE) value of > 70%. Normally the magnesium content of calcitic lime is < 1%.
