Gzip Single File
Start the 7zip application and browse the location where the file you want to compress is located. Right click on the file_name > 7-Zip > Add to archive… 
For Archive format: select gzip and click on OK to start compressing.

Gzip Directory
Compressing a directory takes an extra step, first you need to create a tar of the directory you want to compress. 
Select the source directory > 7-Zip > Add to archive… 
For Archive format: select tar and click on OK.

Once again go back to 7-Zip select the new tar file(filename.tar) > 7-Zip > Add to archive… 
For Archive format select gzip and click on OK.

The resulting compressed directory with the new extension ending in .tar.gz. 
How do I extract a .gz file from a window?
You can open a GZ file in Windows 10 using the built-in file compression utility called File Explorer. To open a GZ file, right-click the file and select “Extract All.” This will create a folder containing the contents of the GZ file. You can then open the extracted files or folders normally.
Is gzip compatible with Windows?
Although it’s not commonly used on Windows, this compression format is still popular on UNIX/LINUX. If you receive a GZIP file, you can save it to your desktop and open it with WinZip.
