Registration in South Africa grants Homeopathic practitioner’s privileges and right similar to those of medical practitioners. Homeopathic practitioners are therefore recognised as a primary contact profession and are trained diagnosticians.

This being the case, only full-time training at the level of comprehensive Masters Degree in Homeopathy is recognized, thus permitting registration as a Homeopathic Doctor.

Homeopathic training in South Africa involves a five year full-time degree leading to a M. Tech. Hom., followed by a one year internship. There are currently only two tertiary institutions in South Africa that offer an M. Tech. Hom. Qualification in Homeopathy; the University of Johannesburg and Durban University of Technology.

What to Study In South Africa

Diploma: Only DUT and UJ offer the N.Dip (3 years) Postgraduate course BTech (1 year) and MTech: Homeopathy courses which have been approved by the Minister of Education

The course consists of:

traditional medical subjects with emphasis on diagnostic skills

training on the practical application of homeopathic principles and theory as well as different forms of treatment such as acupuncture, massage, and nutrition.

At the end of the course, a 1-year internship as laid down by the Chiropractors, Homoeopaths and Allied Health Service Professions Council of South Africa, must be completed before registration as a qualified homeopath.
