To avoid LSPI (Low-Speed Pre-Ignition)—a damaging condition in modern turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDI) engines—you need to focus on proper maintenance, fuel selection, and the right oil. LSPI can cause engine knock, piston damage, and even catastrophic engine failure.

Low-Speed Pre-Ignition happens when the air-fuel mixture in a cylinder ignites before the spark plug fires, especially at low RPM and high load (like accelerating hard in a high gear). It’s a big issue for small, turbocharged engines trying to boost fuel efficiency and performance.

1. Use LSPI-Resistant Engine Oil
