What is a fried chicken?

Fried chicken, also known as Southern fried chicken, is a dish consisting of chicken pieces that have been coated with seasoned flour or batter and pan-fried, deep-fried, pressure-fried, or air-fried. The breading adds a crisp coating or crust to the exterior of the chicken while retaining juices in the meat. Broiler chickens are most commonly used.

How To Air Fry Chicken

STEP 1: MARINATE THE CHICKEN

Combine the buttermilk, chicken pieces, salt, and pepper in a large airtight plastic bag or container. Place the bag in the refrigerator to marinate for at least an hour, and up to one night.

STEP 2: MAKE THE BREADING

Combine the flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder in a bowl or dish. Stir well.

STEP 3: BREAD THE CHICKEN

Remove the chicken pieces from the refrigerator and dip them into the breading mixture. Avoid coating the chicken pieces too heavily, which could cause clumps of dry flour to form.

STEP 4: FRY THE CHICKEN

Spray the air fryer basket with a thin layer of cooking spray. Preheat the air fryer to about 425 °F. Coat the chicken with cooking spray and place in the air fryer basket, cooking for about 25–35 minutes.

(Cooking temperatures and times may vary between air fryer models.) The finished chicken should be crisp and have a deep, golden color.

How long does air fryer take to cook chicken?

Roll each oiled chicken breast in the seasoning and put in your air fryer basket. Cook at 180C for 18-20 mins, turning after 10 mins. To check it is cooked, pierce the chicken with a knife at the thickest part to see if the juices run clear. Or insert a temperature thermometer and it should read 70C.

How long to re-air fry fried chicken?

If you happen to own an air fryer, you can certainly reheat your fried chicken in its basket. Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and let the fried chicken come to room temperature.

Next, arrange the fried chicken in a single layer and cook it for about four minutes, flipping it once to ensure even cooking.
