What is an iMessage?
iMessage is an instant messaging service developed by Apple Inc. and launched in 2011. iMessage functions exclusively on Apple platforms – including macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS – as part of Apple’s broader strategic approach to inter-device integration, sometimes referred to as the Apple Eco-System
How To Activate iMessage
To activate and use iMessage, your iPhone or iPad must be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or mobile data. Also, you must be logged in to your iCloud account on your device. Since the iPad can also send text messages, the process for activating iMessage is the same as the iPhone.
So, follow these steps to activate the iMessage service:
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Scroll down and tap Messages.
- Enable the toggle for iMessage.
Now, iMessage is enabled on your device, so you can start messaging your friends with Apple devices using the Messages app.
It’s important to distinguish between standard SMS/MMS texts and iMessage texts. Your iPhone or iPad shows iMessage messages in blue bubbles and regular SMS/MMS messages in green bubbles.
Why does my iMessage say waiting for activation?
If iMessage or FaceTime is stuck on the “Waiting for activation” screen, try resetting both apps.
You can also try restarting your phone, refreshing your connection, or resetting your Apple ID. Other steps to try include ensuring the time and date are correct or updating or resetting your device.
How long does it take for iMessage to be activated?
It might take up to 24 hours for your carrier to verify your phone number with Apple. Contact your carrier to make sure that you can send and receive SMS messages and wait up to 24 hours after you try the troubleshooting steps above.
