What Are SETAs?

Sector Education and Training Authority is the vocational skills training organization in South Africa. As of March 2011, there have been 21 SETAs. Each SETA is responsible for managing and creating leadership, internships, unit-based skills programs, and apprenticeships within its jurisdiction.

What Are The Types Of SETAs?

LGSETA – This SETA provides skills development training to those who are interested in working within the local government. MerSETA – The MerSETA facilitates training and development within manufacturing, engineering, and related services.

What Is The Role Of SETAs?

SETAs have the function to monitor the quality of education and training in their sectors. They have to liaise with Employment Services, the NSA, and the provinces. A SETA has to report to the Director-General of the Department of Labour on the implementation of its sector skills plans and its income and expenditure.
