An orphan is a child whose parents have died. In common usage, only a child who has lost both parents due to death is called an orphan.
When referring to animals, only the mother’s condition is usually relevant.

Figures range from 3.4 million to nearly 4 million. The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), for instance,
has put the number of orphans in South Africa at between 3.7 million and 4 million. But some projections have suggested figures as high as 5.2 million.

The world and global society benefit when we help orphan children. Instead of harming themselves and others,
they grow up to be responsible, healthy, adults that give back to the community they live in instead of taking away from it. The good that is done, is generational.
