How Many Days Is Paternity Leave In South Africa?
In terms of the Labour Laws Amendment Act, an employee is entitled to 10 days of parental leave upon the birth of the employee’s child.
Parental leave may also be applicable in circumstances where an employee legally adopts a child or when a child is placed by a court in the care of a prospective adoptive parent.
How much is paternity leave pay in South Africa?
Paternity leave will be paid by the South African Unemployment Insurance Fund at a rate of 66% of the total earnings of the employee at the date of application, subject to certain rules and conditions including a threshold constraint.
How do I claim paternity leave in South Africa?
Qualifying UIF contributors can visit any Labour Centre in the country with the prescribed application form and the following support documents to submit for a Parental Benefit claim:
- Identity Document of the applicant;
- Birth Certificate of the child with full details of parents; and.
- Details of a valid bank account.
