What is Guide Dogs?
Guide dogs are assistance dogs trained to lead blind or visually impaired people around obstacles.
Although dogs can be trained to navigate various obstacles, they are red-green color blind and incapable of interpreting street signs.

You pay R205, which includes your trained Working Dog, training, accommodation, and equipment.
What happens to a guide dog when it’s retired?
Retired dogs normally retire from work around 9 to 11 years of age. It is common for the guide dog to remain as a pet with their owner, family,
and/or close friends but sometimes this is not possible so we look at where the dogs can enjoy their hard-earned retirement.
Why do guide dogs fail?
Some just don’t have the temperament to become a guide dog, some have a health condition that means they are not suited to our type of work and some simply retire.
Many of our retired dogs will stay with their owner or a member of their family or friend but this is not always possible.
How long do guide dogs train?
It’s a big step up, akin to the transition from nursery to primary school. Guide Dog Trainers work with the dogs for around 19 weeks,
helping them develop basic guiding skills, for example, dealing with curbs and avoiding obstacles.
