How long should a flower box be?
You want a window box to anchor your window, so make it longer than the base of your window, extending out at least to the window trim if not a few inches longer. Undersized window boxes never really look right.
Do flower boxes need holes?
If there is nowhere for excess water to go, then it can pool in the bottom of the planter and ultimately kill the plants. Every planter must have holes in the bottom for that surplus of water to drain out from and those holes need to be kept unblocked and able to flow.
How many holes does a flower box have?
Drill at least five drainage holes in the bottom of the box. Drill them no more than 3/4-inch wide. Space the holes evenly. If you’ve constructed a very large planter, you may need to add additional holes.
How long will a plant last in a box?
Plants are surprisingly resilient, which is why online plant sales are not only possible but a booming little industry.
We tend to think that plants need daily light to survive, right? Not the case! Plants can survive up to 2 weeks in a dark box, provided they are prepared right.
How long does box take to grow?
Once the plant is established, Buxus sempervirens will grow about 3-6 inches (75-150 mm) a year under reasonable growing conditions. In deep shade, very poor soil and very exposed sites, the growth rate is lower.
