The Diploma (Practical Music) can, in exceptional cases, articulate to the 2nd year of the BMus (a minimum final mark of 70% in each of the following: General Music Study, Music Theory) provided that the student complies with the entrance requirements for the BMus and follows the prescribed selection process.
General admission requirements
• Write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) AQL
• An NSC aggregate of at least 65% (excluding Life Orientation)

National Benchmark Tests not to be written
• A National Senior Certificate with at least 40% in each of four school subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
• In the main instrument (or in singing) at least a practical standard in classical music equivalent to the Grade VII examination and theoretical knowledge equivalent to any of the examining bodies’ Grade-III/IV theory examination.
• Candidates must be available for an audition and theoretical test at the Department of Music in Stellenbosch, where they must demonstrate proof of the required standards.

Admission requirements
For admission to the University you need:
• A National Senior Certificate or school-leaving certificate from the Independent Examination Board as certified by Umalusi with admission to bachelor’s degree studies; or
• A university exemption certificate issued by the South African Matriculation Board to students with other school qualifications.
Admission to bachelor’s degree studies requires that you obtain a mark of at least 4 (50-59%) in each of four designated university admission subjects.
