Diploma In Hospitality Management At University Of Mpumalanga UM

The Diploma in Hospitality Management at UMP is a well-designed qualification that is crafted to suit the needs of the Hospitality industry. It focuses on
the education, work-integrated learning and skills development required for all levels of employment in the Hospitality industry.


DURATION:
The Diploma in Hospitality Management is a three-year, 360 credit, exit level 6 qualification.


CURRICULUM:
Students are exposed to theoretical and practical aspects of Hospitality Management including; Accommodation
Management, Culinary Studies and Nutrition, Food and Beverage Studies and Operations, Financial Management, Hospitality Management, Hospitality Service Excellence, Hospitality Health and Safety, Hospitality Law, with support modules in Hospitality Communication, Computing and
First Aid.


In the second and third year, students spend five months on campus and five months at a hospitality establishment for work-integrated learning, during which there is the opportunity to apply theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in a real world setting.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Of Diploma In Hospitality Management At University Of Mpumalanga UM
Applicants with the National Senior Certificate (NSC): The minimum requirements for admission to a Diploma must
be met. In addition, students will have the following: Minimum Admission Point Score (APS):

  • With Mathematics
  • With Mathematical Literacy
    • English Language (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
    • Mathematics: Level 3
    • Mathematical Literacy: Level 4 Applicants with the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) level

  • RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND
    CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND TRANSFER (CAT):
    Applicants wishing to be considered for admission in terms of RPL or to have credits transferred to this programme must
    indicate this on their application.
  • The University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) will be applied.

  • PROGRESSION:
    Students who successfully complete this Diploma will be able to apply for admission to an Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management at UMP or another Higher Education Institution.

    NCV level 4, with at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language), 40% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical
    Literacy, and 60% in four Hospitality subjects.
