Bolt Requirements In South Africa

To start your journey with Taxify Bolt and join the Taxify drivers’ list, there are a few requirements that you will need to meet both for the car and you as the driver.

  • Have a valid driver’s license or professional driving permit
  • Provide the vehicle or vehicles details & contact details of the driver on the platform
  • Proof of the vehicle certificate registration
  • A valid vehicle inspection report
  • A motor vehicle license disc with operator card from the Licensing Department
  • Proof of comprehensive insurance (Inclusive of a 5 million rand passenger liability)
  • Third-party property damage
  • A minimum of R50,000 personal accident cover for each car passenger
  • A clean criminal record
  • A smartphone with an Android device Operating System

Accepted Bolts model cars?

There are standard car requirements when it comes to the type of cars accepted by the Company. However, some requirements differ in each city.

Metropolitan Cities 

Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban

Vehicle Categories:

  • Johannesburg: Go, Classic, XL, Premium and Van
  • Cape Town: Go, Classic, XL and Premium 
  • Durban: Go, Classic and XL

Category: Bolt Go

  • 2010 – 2021 4 door hatchbacks
  • 2010 – 2012 4 door sedans, SUV’s, and 6-7 seaters

Category: Bolt Classic

  • 2013 – 2021 4 door sedans and SUVs

Category: Bolt XL 

  • 2013 – 2021 6-7 seaters

Category: Bolt Van 

  • 2013 – 2021 8-11 seaters

Category: Bolt Premium 

  • 2013 – 2021 luxury sedans, SUVs, 6 – 11 seater vehicles

Remote Cities

East London, Emalahleni, Ermelo, Garden Route, Grahamstown, Kimberley, Mbombela, Mthatha, Phuthaditjaba, Mahikeng, Pietermaritzburg, Polokwane, Potchefstroom, Port Elizabeth, Queenstown, Rustenburg, Thohoyandou, Upington and Welkom.

  • 2010 – 2021 4 door hatchbacks

Category: Bolt Classic 

  • 2010 – 2021 4 door sedans, SUVs and 6 – 11 seater vehicles

Vehicle Requirements: Applies to Metropolitan and Remote cities.

  • The vehicle must have less than 100 000 km on the clock
  • The vehicle must be in good cosmetic condition
  • The vehicle must pass the TRA 45 point inspection.

Note: You should provide the required documents when registering a new vehicle to operate on the Bolt platform.
