Art & Language is a conceptual artists’ collaboration that has undergone many changes since it was created in the late 1960s.
The group was founded by artists who shared a common desire to combine intellectual ideas and concerns with the creation of art.

Qualification admission requirements
Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.
A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and submission of a portfolio of artworks to the Department of Art and Music is required.
A permission letter from the Department of Art and Music is required and must be submitted when applying for admission,
or
a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualify for exemption from the Matriculation Board with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning, and submission of a portfolio of artworks to the Department of Art and Music is required.
A permission letter from the Department of Art and Music is required and must be submitted when applying for admission,
or
a National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 4 with at least 60% in three fundamental subjects including the language of teaching and learning and submission of a portfolio of artworks to the Department of Art and Music is required.
A permission letter from the Department of Art and Music is required and must be submitted when applying for admission. 70% in four vocational subjects chosen from the NCV level 4 subjects.
Subjects under the following categories are approved eligible for a BEd degree: All official languages as First Additional Language level, Agriculture and Nature Conservation, Business, Commerce and Management Sciences Services, Education, training and Development.
Applicants who do not comply with the above requirements should consider applying for the Higher Certificate in Education if they meet the statutory and additional requirements.

What role does language play in art?
Many used language in place of more traditional materials like brushes and canvas, and words played a primary role in their emphasis on ideas over visual forms.
Conceptual artists also used language in the form of instructions detailing how artwork should be made.
