Bachelor Of Science In Agriculture At University Of Mpumalanga UM

UMP, as an African University, strives to lead in creating opportunities for sustainable development through innovation. In line with this statement, the BSc in Agriculture seeks to produce agricultural scientist that will use agricultural methods sustainably to produce food and educate society in such a way that food security is guaranteed.

Graduates from the programmed will be able to use the latest and relevant scientific farming techniques adapted to our environment.

The BSc in Agriculture has a specific focus on Agricultural Production Operations and allows students to select additional modules from Agricultural Extension, Agricultural and Applied Entomology, Water Management and Environmental Science.

DURATION:
The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is a four-year, 480 credit, exit level 8 qualification.

CURRICULUM:
The first year lays a foundation of key topics including Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry and South African Agriculture, with support subjects including Computer Science and Numerical and Academic Literacy.

In second and third year, all students take the core modules in Agricultural Science and select an elective from Agricultural Extension, Agricultural and Applied Entomology, Water Management and Environmental Science. In the fourth year, students chose one of two streams being Agricultural Science and Agricultural Business.

The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the
following:
Admission Point Score (APS):

  • 30 With Mathematics
  • 32 With Mathematical Literacy
    • English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
    • Mathematics: Level 4
    • Mathematical Literacy: Level 6
    • Life Science: Level 4

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND TRANSFER (CAT)
Applicants wishing to be considered for admission in terms of RPL or to have credits transferred to this programme must indicate this on their application. The University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) will be applied

PROGRESSION:
Students who successfully complete this Bachelor’s Degree will be able to apply for admission to Masters’ Degree in Agriculture or a Master of Science at UMP or another Higher Education Institution
