Bachelor of Education – Intermediate Phase at Sol Plaatje University

The IIE Bachelor of Education (BEd) in Intermediate Phase Teaching (IPT) is an undergraduate professional qualification aimed at preparing graduates to teach learners from Grades 4 to 7.

It is also aligned with the new Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework’s (HEQSF) guidelines.

Period of study: 4 Years

This program targets potential students who have successfully completed Grade 12 with admission to degree studies and who want to teach Languages, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Life Skills, and Social Sciences to Grade 4 to 7 learners.

Minimum requirements

The rules of the University in respect of admission to degree study are applicable for admission to this degree.

Students must be in possession of a National Senior Certificate and a minimum admission points (AP) score of 30. 

The language of instruction is English subject to the minimum achievement level 4 (50%).

Admission to the two BEd degrees is, furthermore, subject to the minimum requirement requested to gain access to enroll for a specific subject in a program and the space available in the various programs in education.

How many subjects are there in the intermediate phase?

The Intermediate Phase includes six compulsory subjects: At least one home language (English or Afrikaans) A second language subject at Home Language or First.
