Bachelor Of Agriculture In Agricultural Extension And Rural Resource At University Of Mpumalanga UM

The Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management aims to equip agricultural extension practitioners with the skills,
knowledge and attitude needed to contribute to building the capacity of farmers to innovate and to engage in market-oriented sustainable agricultural production, diversification of products and value adding.

Graduates will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the nation to meet its agricultural objectives.

They will help meet the demand for professional practitioners who can participate in leading South African agriculture through the complex world of agricultural and rural transformation while at the same time, supporting and helping to expand commercial agricultural activity and production.

DURATION:
The Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management is a three-year, 360 credit, exit level 7 qualification.

CURRICULUM
The modules offered within the programmed combine topics in agriculture such as Crop and Animal Production, Plant Propagation and Plant Protection, Farm Management and Conservation, and Mechanization, with topics in Agricultural Extension including Rural Wealth Creation, Development of Economic Systems, Designing Extension Programmed, Extension Communication, Natural Resource Conservation, and Introduction to Rural Development and Extension.

In third year there is a period of work integrated learning during which the knowledge and skills developed in the first two years are applied in a real world work environment.

Applicants with the National Senior Certificate (NSC):
The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the
following:
Admission Point Score (APS):

  • 28 With Mathematics
  • 30 With Mathematical Literacy
    • English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
    • Mathematics: Level 4
    • Mathematical Literacy: Level 6
    • One of Agriculture, Life Science or Physical Science:
    Level 4

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND TRANSFER (CAT)
Applicants wishing to be considered for admission in terms of RPL or to have credits transferred to this programmed must indicate this on their application. The University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) will be applied

PROGRESSION
Students who successfully complete this Bachelor’s Degree will be able to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Agriculture (Honors) in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management at UMP or another Higher Education Institution.
