Bachelor Of Agriculture Honors In Agricultural Extension And Rural Resource Management At University Of Mpumalanga UM

The purpose of the degree is to develop the capacity of Agricultural Extension practitioners who will work in agricultural and rural development in the NGO sector, for government service, for agri-business and for other private sector companies involved with farmers and rural communities.

Graduates will contribute to enhance the quality and effectiveness of agricultural extension services. They will help meet the demand for professionals who can lead and manage agricultural extension through the complex world of agricultural and rural transformation.

Qualifying learners will gain specialized competencies in terms of communication, behavior change, facilitation, leadership and group dynamics, adult learning, technology innovation and transfer, project planning and management, extension evaluation and community development.

Competencies also include client orientation and customer focus, service delivery innovation, problem solving, honesty and integrity and people management and empowerment. The programmed prepares graduate for further study and research in Agricultural Extension.

DURATION:
The Bachelor of Agriculture Honors in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management is a one-year, 120 credit, exit Level 8 qualification.

CURRICULUM
The curriculum is grounded in five key themes: systems thinking; agricultural extension in a learning framework; project design for development; research; and self-directed application based praxis learning. Together these themes augment the extension learning in place to enable students to acquire the capacity to practice agricultural extension in a development and capacity building context and to conduct primary and secondary research in agricultural extension.

The curriculum has been designed to develop the capacity of Agricultural Extension practitioners who will work in agricultural and rural development in private and public sectors.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Of Bachelor Of Agriculture Honors In Agricultural Extension And Rural Resource Management At University Of Mpumalanga UM
Students with the following qualifications will be considered for admission into this degree:
• Bachelor of Agriculture (NQF7) with a minimum credit-weighted third-year average mark of 60%.
• Advanced Diploma in Agricultural Extension (NQF7) (or similar agricultural qualification at least at NQF 7) with a minimum credit-weighted average of 60%.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND TRANSFER (CAT)
Applicants wishing to be considered for admission in terms of RPL or to have credits transferred to this programme must indicate this on their application. The University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) will be applied.

PROGRESSION:
Students successfully completing this degree will be able to apply for admission into Masters level studies.
