BAccLLB at University of Stellenbosch

This program equips you firstly to practice as a chartered accountant. Secondly, it equips you with the necessary knowledge and insight required by the law sciences with a view to a possible legal career. An advantage of this program is that the BAcc and LLB qualifications may be obtained in five years.

Minimum Requirement

Write the NBTs AQL and MAT before the end of June
• An average of at least 80% (excluding Life Orientation) in the NSC or IEB school-leaving certificate
• English or Afrikaans Home Language 60% OR
Afrikaans or English First Additional Language 70%
• Mathematics 70% OR
Mathematics 60% and Accounting 70%.

Admission requirements

For admission to the University you need:
• A National Senior Certificate or school-leaving certificate from the Independent Examination Board as certified by Umalusi with admission to bachelor’s degree studies; or
• A university exemption certificate issued by the South African Matriculation Board to students with other school qualifications.
Admission to bachelor’s degree studies requires that you obtain a mark of at least 4 (50-59%) in each of four designated university admission subjects.

Which subjects are required for law?

The admission requirements for law vary with different universities. The average university requires a 70% English Home Language or English First Additional Language, and a 50% for Mathematics (pure math or math literacy). Many universities will require a 65% average over all subjects.

What jobs can I do with a BCom law degree?

The Bachelor of Commerce with Law (BCom) is a full-time 3-year degree.

Is LLB good for the future?

LLB is a career option having the very wide scope and bright future prospects.

LLB graduates are free to become lawyers at the Central or State Government. After doing LLB, one can also work as a legal advisor for firms, families, or organizations. Law graduate generally chooses to work as lawyers.
