What is Alexa?
Amazon Alexa, also known simply as Alexa, is a virtual assistant technology largely based on a Polish speech synthesizer named Ivona, bought by Amazon in 2013.
It was first used in the Amazon Echo smart speaker and the Echo Dot, Echo Studio, and Amazon Tap speakers developed by Amazon Lab126.

Does Alexa record everything you say?
Alexa does not actively record and store all your conversations, but it’s always listening for “Alexa,” the wake word. Once you say it, anything you say that follows is recorded and stored in the cloud. On occasion, Alexa may think you’ve said its name when you haven’t.
What is required to set up Alexa?
You need an Amazon account to use Alexa, but you don’t need Amazon Prime. Sign in on the app.
Then click the hamburger menu on the lower right and select Add a Device. Here you can add any number of Alexa-supported devices to your account, from smart lights to smart plugs.
Do you need WiFi for Alexa?
Alexa devices need a WiFi connection to function properly.
When you ask Alexa a question or use a voice command, an audio recording is sent to Amazon’s cloud over your WiFi network.
