Do you need a permit to keep bees in South Africa?

Registering with DAFF is a legal requirement, in terms of the Agricultural Pests Act of 1983, (Control Measure R858). If you keep bees as a hobby, run a honey production business, or offer bee removal services, you’re required to register every year. The registration period runs from 1 January to 31 March.
