What are the best Rock Drill Bits to buy?
If you know that you’ll be drilling through rock like shale, hard limestone, or granite for a serious distance, a tri-cone bit (also called a roller-cone bit) should be your go-to.
A PDC bit would also work as long as the rock doesn’t get too hard in that case, it’s best to stick with a tri-cone bit.
How long do Rock Drill Bits last?
If the bit is not reground, the driller will often assume that he can continue with the same bit until the required depth is reached.
In fact, although the bit will actually last for 15 hours (with the same revs and blows) it will drill only 350 m in that time due to the decrease in penetration rate.
