How To Avoid Measles
Avoiding measles mainly involves prevention through vaccination and good hygiene. Measles is a highly contagious viral infection, but it’s preventable with proper care.
How to Avoid Measles
1. Get Vaccinated
- The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is the most effective way to prevent measles.
- It’s usually given in two doses during childhood, but adults who haven’t been vaccinated should get it too.
- Check with your healthcare provider about your vaccination status.
2. Avoid Contact with Infected People
- Measles spreads through coughs, sneezes, and close contact.
- Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms like high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash.
3. Practice Good Hygiene
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
- Avoid touching your face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing (use a tissue or your elbow).
4. Isolate Infected Individuals
- If someone has measles, they should stay isolated to prevent spreading the virus for at least 4 days after the rash appears.
5. Maintain a Healthy Immune System
- Eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep, and reduce stress to support your immune system.
If you suspect you or someone else has measles, seek medical advice immediately. Early diagnosis helps prevent spreading and complications.
